This is the Tri-ang Minic Ships model of USS Chancellorsville CG 62 a US Navy Ticonderoga Class Guided Missile Cruiser named for the Battle of Chancellorsville which was fought between 30th April and 6th May 1863 during the American Civil War.

USS Chancellorsville is one of the later 22 ships fitted with the Mk 41 Vertical Launch System (VLS) in place of the original Mk 26 twin-arm missile launcher which greatly improved the flexibility and firepower of the ships by allowing them to fire both the Standard missile (SAM) and the BGM-109 Tomahawk missile.

Built on the highly successful Spruance class hull, Ticonderoga class cruisers were designed primarily as escorts for Carrier Strike Groups (CSGs) and Amphibious Assault Groups but are also used for interdiction and general escort duties. They were the first US Navy surface ships equipped with the AEGIS Weapons System at the heart of which is the SPY-1A phased array radar that automatically detects and tracks air contacts at ranges beyond 200 miles. The AEGIS system is designed to defeat attacking missiles by providing a quick reaction high firepower defense coupled with jamming resistance to deal with Air Warfare threats expected to be faced by Carrier Strike Groups (CSGs).

The Ticonderoga class cruisers with their AEGIS air defense system; AN/SSQ-89 Undersea Warfare System with hull mounted Sonar and towed Acoustic Array Sonar; sophisticated AN-SLQ-32 C4ISR Electronic Warfare suite; Mk 41 VLS and Tomahawk cruise missiles; and two five inch gun mounts are some of the most powerful multi role surface combatants afloat. They are capable of sustained combat operations in any combination of Anti-Air (AAW), Anti-Submarine (ASW), Anti-Surface and Land Strike warfare environments as well as being able to provide Naval Gunfire Support (NGFS / NGS) for the US Marine Corps during amphibious assaults / landings.

The ships are powered by four gas turbine engines coupled to two controllable reversible pitch propellers which provide rapid acceleration to speeds in excess of 30 knots while also increasing maneuverability and allowing the ship to be brought rapidly to a stop.

The model is marked on the underside with the Tri-ang Minic logo, "US Navy Series", model number P 820, and the description "Ticonderoga Class Cruiser".
